چکیده

Advances in human computation bring the feasibility of utilizing human capabilities as services. On the other hand, we have witnessed emerging collective adaptive systemswhich are formed fromheterogeneous types of compute units to solve complex problems. The recently introduced Social Compute Units (SCUs) present one type of these systems, which have human-based services as their core fundamental compute units. While, there is related work on forming SCUs and optimizing their performance with adaptation techniques, most of it is focused on static structures of SCUs. To provide better runtime performance and flexibility management for SCUs, we present an elasticity model for SCUs andmechanisms for their elastic management which allow for certain fluctuations in size, structure, performance and quality. We model states of elastic SCUs, present APIs for managing SCUs as well as metrics for controlling their elasticity with which it is possible to tailor their performance parameters at runtime within the customer-set constraints. We illustrate our contribution with an example algorithm.

Augmenting Complex Problem Solving with Hybrid Compute Units

Combining software-based and human-based services is crucial for several complex problems that cannot be solved using software-based services alone. In this paper, we present novel methods for modeling and developing hybrid compute units of software-based and human-based services. We discuss high-level programming elements for different types of softwareand humanbased service units and their re...

A robust engineering approach for wind turbine blade profile aeroelastic computation

Wind turbines are important devices that extract clean energy from wind flow. The efficiency of wind turbines should be examined under various working conditions in order to estimate off-design performance. Numerous aerodynamic and structural research works have been carried out to compute aeroelastic effects on wind turbines. Most of them suffer from either the simplicity of the modelling appr...

Benchmarking Sustainability with Respect to Transportation Supply and Demand

This paper is an endeavor to quantify the concept of sustainable transportation. The prevailing idea in the context of sustainable development (SD) emphasizes on the reduction of transportation demand in order to reduce the environmental and social consequences of it. Nevertheless, in the current paper using a measure for SD, and based on the conformity of the growths of all sectors with transp...

A Critical Discourse about Demand for Money Studies in the Iranian Economy (1989- 2000)

This paper provides a critical review of the demand for money estimation. In doing so, first we explain the main effective factors on the demand for money on the light of monetarists, which those are: transaction demand for money and opportunity cost of holding money. Then I have done a short report about the existing studies on the demand for money in the Iranian economy and have a special att...
